The Aspen series began with a commission to create a sculpture for a client’s new home being constructed in Aspen Colorado. Luckily she felt it was important for me to travel to the site to begin the drawings and concepts for the piece. Onsite I was able to draw inspiration from the stunning landscape surrounding the home and integrate some of the materials and shapes in the beautifully designed structure to create a signature piece, custom designed to fit above her fireplace in the great room. Smaller reliefs and hammered copper panels were also created to integrate the sculpture into the structure and surround of the fireplace.

 

The finished sculpture itself was fabricated in pieces in Pennsylvania and shipped to the site to be assembled.  While working and finishing each of the elements individually they proved to be interesting as independent sculptural pieces.  Using them as building blocks they inspired a series of wall relief pieces in a variety of combinations and materials.
